Introduction to PPE Inspections

This CPD Certified course is intended to give a basic understanding of the safe use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in an Outdoor Activity Centre setting.

It explains how to carry out basic Pre-use Checks of various items of PPE including Ropes, Carabiners, Harnesses, Helmets, Pulleys and Slings.

The course is ideally suited to Instructors in an Outdoor Education or Adventure setting, Climbing Wall Instructors, or CWI/RCI Trainees - either to gain the competence required to carry out pre-use checks or to refresh existing knowledge.

Important Note: This is not a Competent Person course, nor is it intended to replace the need for a Competent Person to carry out periodical inspections of all PPE used on- and off-site.

Some feedback on the course...

"The course gives me peace of mind that my team members are up to date with knowledge on PPE inspections.

In our team it fits in well with our hands-on training, covering things like legislation and markings in a clear, easy-to-digest way."
Alex bolton
activities manager - Woodhouse park activity centre
"I liked all the visual and video information that gave clear instructions of what elements you are checking.

This will be useful for someone with little experience in checking equipment as they can see everything they need to."

"For a while we've been looking for a course which gives our instructors a good basis of knowledge around PPE checks without having to send them on a Competent Person course.

We used to run an in-house session but this course means we don't need our Lead Instructors to spend time doing this three or four times a year with each intake of new staff. It meets our needs perfectly."
Nicole Lancaster
Centre manager - ferny crofts scout activity centre
"“As a Technical Advisor, I recommend the Introduction to PPE Inspection course from Learn the Ropes. It offers a clear, practical overview of essential PPE checks, covering key equipment in a way that’s easy to follow without losing technical accuracy.

The content feels relevant for real-world use, and the flexible online format makes it a great option for both new staff and those needing a refresher.”
MarK Garland (MCI) - Garland Mountaineering
