Yes! This course is suited to anyone starting out as an aspiring climbing and/or high ropes instructor. It's also suited to CWI and RCI candidates at all stages of your training journey. Whether you're just starting out and have booked your training course, or whether your assessment is next week - this course will give you the knowledge and confidence to check all items of PPE used in climbing - a core element of both the CWI and RCI syllabus. 

The course has been developed by two experienced Outdoor Centre Managers with nearly three decades of outdoor learning knowledge and climbing instruction behind them. It's been reviewed by a number of technical advisors including RCI and CWI course providers - so you can be assured it's suitable for your course or working at a Climbing Wall or Centre. It's also received accreditation from the CPD association, a professional body checking the quality of online training. 

When you pass the final knowledge check on the course, you'll instantly receive a PDF certificate download, which you can save in your training file. You won't be asked to show this at your RCI/CWI assessment, but you might want to take it along to your job interview at a Climbing Wall or Outdoor Centre to give you that edge above the competition! 

Absolutely! Whether you're walking the floor or instructing groups, a good solid knowledge of PPE safety will give you the ability to spot any problems with customers' gear, and ensure you're confident in checking ropes, harnesses and metalwork before you set your group off up the wall. Ultimately this will help you make the Wall a safer place for all users! 

No - but it does add to it! Mountain Training requires that to pass your CWI or RCI you must attend in-person training and in-person assessment. At your training course you will cover the basics of PPE usage and inspection, but this course is complementary to it, by giving you a deeper understanding of safe use of PPE, and allowing you to refresh your memory between training and assessment. 

Your CWI or RCI assessment covers a range of skills and knowledge. Confidence in checking PPE is only one element of this, alongside personal climbing ability, coaching skills and group management. We believe completing this course will give you more than enough knowledge to pass the PPE element - but sadly no online course will make certain you can climb that S4c pitch at the crag!
